Māori-inspired tattoos

Meaning deserves attention

Māori visual traditions have a cultural context. A conversation about origin and intention comes before the design.

Tā moko is a Māori art form connected to identity and culture. We therefore do not present it as a generic ‘tribal’ category to choose from a catalogue without context.

If certain forms appeal to you, first discuss where your references come from and what they mean. We do not copy another person’s individual moko. A carefully considered personal design needs an appropriate approach and understanding of the context.

This page is an introduction and does not promise that Bunker provides traditional tā moko. Send your question and references to our Breda studio. We will discuss honestly which direction and expertise your project requires.

Is this style for you?

For people who want to explore the background and meaning of their chosen visual references first.
