YOUR STORY
A meaningful tattoo starts with your story
Some memories are worth carrying with you. Someone who shaped your life. A love. A moment that changed everything. A meaningful tattoo often begins with a story, long before it becomes an image.

Start with the meaning, before choosing a symbol
You do not need to decide immediately whether you want a flower, a portrait or a few words. First, write down what you want to remember in everyday language. What makes that person or memory special? What feeling would you like the tattoo to bring back?
Think about specific details: handwriting on a card, a place you visited together or an object that was always there. A small detail can say more than a collection of familiar symbols. Other people do not have to understand it at first glance; you know the story.
Give one idea the leading role
With a personal design, it is tempting to include everything: a date, a name, a landscape and a favourite flower. First, choose what is essential. Other elements can support that idea, or you can save them for another chapter.
Ask yourself three questions: what should this tattoo bring to mind, which detail must be there, and how much of the story do I want other people to see? These answers give an artist direction without deciding every part of the design in advance.
Let the story and the design work together
The same memory can be expressed in very different tattoo styles. It might become a graphic composition, a recognisable object or lettering based on your own handwriting. Placement and size also influence how much space the story has.
Bring references for mood, line work and composition, and explain what you like about them. A reference is a starting point for your own design; you do not need to copy an existing tattoo. Mention any plans to extend the piece later.
Bring your story to Bunker
At Bunker Tattoo in Breda, we help you explore a design that feels right for you. A few sentences and an idea of the placement are enough to start the conversation. Photographs or personal references can help, but share only what you feel comfortable sharing.
Your story does not have to be dramatic or sad to become a tattoo. A small pleasure, a shared joke or a new direction in life can be just as meaningful. It is your memory, on your skin.
